Exploring the Crafts of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, often known as the ‘Manchester of India’, is home to a number of textile crafts. One such craft is the old Kalamkari tradition known as Mata ni Pachedi, a sacred cloth worshipped by the Devipujak communities of Gujarat and Rajasthan. In a small locality in Vasna, Ahmedabad, artisans belonging to the Chitara family create these paintings using methods that have been passed down for 200 years.

During this walk, you will visit this community of painters, hand-printers and dyers, all of whom are masters of their craft.
