A strong move has been taken and implemented by PM Narendra Modi. Government has scrapped Article 370 and Article 35A from the Kashmir for the good. Now, what is article 370, 35A and why the country is talking about it?
Article 370 was a ‘Temporary Provision’ that allowed the self-government to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the rule of this article, the parliament needed the state government’s approval for introducing any policies or constitutional powers to the state. Article 35A defined a permanent resident as someone who was a state subject on May 14, 1954, or who has been a resident of the state for 10 years. No outsider was allowed to own a property or get a job.
Home Minister Amit Shah, in the Rajya Sabha, announced the central government’s decision to repeal the reorganization of the state which will now have 2 union territories – Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. Ladakh will be a Union Territory without a legislature and Jammu and Kashmir will have a legislature. The two states will have separate Lieutenant Governors. Parties like Shiv Sena and even rival leaders like Chandrababu Naidu, Arvind Kejriwal, and Mayawati supported the government. Now Union Territory will follow the Constitution like other states in the country. People from other parts of the nation will be eligible to buy properties, get a job and settle down. This historic movement will open the doors of development and peace and it will be cherished for ages.
Moreover, the government was ready with safety measures. 8,000 paramilitary troops from different parts of the country were sent to Kashmir, in addition to nearly 35,000 personnel moved in the past week. Former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were placed under house arrest. Internet and phone lines were forced out of service in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. All educational institutions and offices are shut down. Amarnath Yatra was cancelled by the government and tourists and outsiders were asked to leave the state.
Home Minister @AmitShah Ji’s speech in the Rajya Sabha was extensive and insightful. It accurately highlighted the monumental injustices of the past and coherently presented our vision for the sisters and brothers of J&K. Do hear. https://t.co/ho7PPzyz5w
